Powder Cowboy Directions & Maps

Powder Cowboy’s lodge is accessible by road. Please be aware that the last 12km are on a Forest Service Road and a 4-wheel drive vehicle and/or winter tires are highly recommended. Rental cars often do not have winter tires unless they are 4-wheel drive, so please book ahead.
Cell coverage is available at most locations on the road. (The Powder Cowboy lodge phone number is 250 429-3750).
Be aware that the out going guests from the last tour will be on the Bull River Forest Service Road as well as the potential for logging trucks. Please drive with caution.

  • Driving from Cranbrook

    From Cranbrook, BC - Distance 57 km - 1 hour drive

    From Cranbrook Airport
    Turn left (southeast) towards Cranbrook from the airport. At the entrance to the city of Cranbrook take the junction towards Fernie on Highway #3/#95.

    From Cranbrook
    Exit the city of Cranbrook and follow the signs in the direction of Fernie on Highway #3/93. Cross the large Kootenay River Bridge and very shortly after turn left (marked with a government sign for Powder Cowboy Catskiing/ Bull River Guest Ranch).

    Follow this secondary highway (Wardner-Fort-Steele road) for 8km (5miles). Pass by the small community of Bull River. Turn right onto the Bull River Forest Service Road (again marked with a government sign that says Powder Cowboy Catskiing).

    Drive 12km (7.5 miles) on the Bull River FSR. This road will eventually wind steeply downhill and cross two small bridges over a canyon. Use caution, low speed and low gear, and watch for wildlife and other vehicles! Cell coverage is available at the top of the hill above either side of the canyon. Turn left off the Bull River FSR (FSR 17km marker) into Powder Cowboy Catskiing/ Bull River Guest Ranch.

  • Driving from Kalispell

    From Kalispell, MT - Distance is 195 km/121 miles - 2hr 15min drive

    To get to Powder Cowboy, drive north on Highway #93. Cross the Canadian Border and continue until you reach Highway #3. Turn west on Highway #3 and travel past the towns of Elko & Jaffray. Drive past Jaffray approx 10min.

    Turn right off the main Highway just before the Kootenay River Bridge. This turn off is marked on the right side with a government sign that says Powder Cowboy Catskiing/ Bull River Guest Ranch. (If you go too far you will cross the Kootenay River Bridge.)

  • Driving from Calgary

    From Calgary, AB- Distance is 362 km/ 225 miles - 4 hr drive to Powder Cowboy

    Take Highway #2 South. Turn west on Highway #7 and follow it to Black Diamond. Turn south onto Highway #22. You will eventually come to a T – intersection. Turn west towards Crowsnest Pass on Highway #3, which will bring you to Fernie. Continue through Fernie and along Highway #3. See directions from Fernie.

  • Driving from Fernie

    From Fernie, B.C - Distance 60 km - 1hr 15min drive

    Travel southwest on Highway #3/93 towards Cranbrook. Pass by the small towns of Elko and Jaffray (approx 40min drive to Jaffray). Drive past Jaffray approx 10min.
